A Collection of Prayers for Families, published by John Wesley, M.A. London: Printed by J. Paramore at the Foundery, Moorfields; and sold at the New Chapel, City-Road; and at the Rev. Mr. Wesley`s Preaching-Houses in Town and Country,1784.

Frank Baker, the Textual Editor of “The Bicentennial Edition of the Works of John Wesley”, replied to my letter on the 15 September 1995 stating emphatically that there were only 4 other known copies of this rare little book.
Three of the copies were held in repositories in America and one in The Methodist Archives in Manchester by the John Rylands Library.

The 3 American copies were in:-
The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University, Connecticut; the Duke University in North Carolina and the Drew University in Madison, New Jersey.
He noted that the early copies have no publisher, no printer and no date and refers sometimes to these issues as conjectural ,as there are oftentimes no known copies.

The first printed issue was, he states, in 1779 but again he emphasises that there was no available copy. Then this issue appeared printed by Paramore, London 1784.
George Paramore was the printer and publisher of Wesley`s publications.

The Foundery mentioned above on the front page, was the Methodist headquarters in London from 1739 until the opening of City Road Chapel in1778, after which it fell into disrepair and was finally demolished.

Indeed, this unique prayer book is a little gem.
